Children’s Charity Honoured with Top Award

Safe Families for Children, a charity working to support vulnerable families and reduce the flow of children into care, is celebrating after being honoured with the Innovative Quality Outcomes Award at the 3rd Sector Care Awards Ceremony held at the London Marriot Hotel Grosvenor Square on 6th December 2017.

Now in their 4th year, the 3rd Sector Care Awards was born out of Care Management Matters, a highly regarded publication for senior executives, owners and operators in the care sector. Showcasing best practice from across the country, ceremony honours innovation and care excellence from the not-for-profit care and support sector.

Safe Families for Children, a national charity working with 28 local authorities across England to support vulnerable families and reduce the flow of children going into the care system, faced a judging panel of experts in social care before being awarded the Innovative Quality Outcomes Award.

Since 2013 Safe Families has improved the lives of over 4800 children living in the UK. More than 2000 vulnerable families who are struggling to cope have been supported by the charity’s volunteers.

In a recently published DfE-commissioned evaluation conducted by Dartington Social Research Unit, Safe Families is referred to as: “one of the most adventurous start-ups in children’s services for some time’ with ‘the potential to support several thousand of England’s neediest children; to greatly reduce the numbers of children in care, and to demonstrably forge a new relationship between public systems and civil society.”

The 3rd Sector Care Award judges commented: “It is a social movement that is innovative, and changes not only practices but also lives.”

Keith Danby, Chief Executive at Safe Families for Children, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win this prestigious award! The competition was very stiff as there were some impressive charities shortlisted. It’s a real tribute to the impact our volunteers have helping vulnerable families in their community. Safe Families is a community-based solution to a community-based problem. It’s bringing communities back to a culture of people helping people.”
