The Children & Families minister, the Rt Hon Edward Timpson MP, has made a visit to Safe Families for Children.
The minister has considerable personal insight into the kind of issues we’re dealing with as whilst growing up his own family home was always full of foster children, and he also has adopted siblings. His team are interested in new innovations in the children’s care sector and so Safe Families for Children was a real eye-opener for him.
The visit lasted two and a half hours and involved the minister meeting with our founder Sir Peter Vardy and Executive Chairman Keith Danby. The minister also spent a considerable time talking to staff and volunteers before sitting down for an important meeting with senior staff from Middlesbrough and Gateshead local authorities – two of the local councils where we have built up our strongest working relationships.
It was very apparent that the minister was very impressed with the rapid growth of Safe Families in its first year, and the obvious difference that has been made to hundreds of children and their families.
The visit ended with Safe Families CEO Matt Wilson presenting our vision for the future and requesting that the government might get on board financially with our future expansion plans. Watch this space!
