Suffering from depression and separated from the father of her four children, Evie needed some friendly support, especially in the case of her eldest child, Helen, who displayed challenging behaviour.
An unexpected Family Friend volunteer stepped forward to help Evie and Helen. Unmarried and with no experience of having children of her own, Barbara turned out to be the perfect fit. As a friend she takes Helen out, mentors her, bakes with her and gives her a friendly ear to talk to…
This befriending has improved Helen’s behaviour considerably. Mum in turn feels encouraged and supported.
Barbara is very pleased she decided to volunteer as a Family Friend in spite of her doubts. ‘As a young single woman without children I didn’t think I’d be able to help much. But I can see now I can play my part.’
Whoever you are and whatever your skills, we’d love to hear from you. Fill in the enquiry form below and we’ll get in touch to explain a bit more about the volunteer process.
